Best/Worst NFL Logos

Image is everything, right?

While it doesn’t decide how well the players play of Sunday, logos that teams wear on their helmet definitely mean something. A good logo inspires fan bases, sells more merchandise, and makes the team look more crisp and united.

Within the 32 teams in the NFL today, there are a fair share of good and bad logos that are representing each individual team. I’m going to go through my favorite and least favorite logos in the NFL, and an explanation as to why I have picked these specific logos.

5. Atlanta Falcons

Yeah, sure, the bird looks pretty intimidating, but there is something wrong with this logo. First of all, it is hard to distinguish the head from the talons. When I was younger I thought the head was where the feet are supposed to be. In a logo, clarity is everything. Heads can’t be feet, and vice-versa.

4. Chicago Bears

This logo is a classic, but it doesn’t dismiss it from being bad. The logo is a simple “C”. Nothing creative or interesting about it. The Bears have been in the league since 1920, so I suppose creativity wasn’t at its highest back then.

3. New York Giants

Same as the Bears, their logo isn’t creative. The NY on the helmets is old, but it isn’t interesting.

2. New York Jets

Sorry New York, but your NFL logos aren’t great. The Jets’ plain looking logo needs to be redone, and with a team that has struggled as bad as they have, it might be time to give it a shot.

1. Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns logo is a helmet. A helmet which the players are wearing during the game. It’s really like an anti-logo, because they don’t really have one. This takes the award for the worst logo in the NFL.

5. Cincinnati Bengals

This is a cool logo. They have a decked out B, with the Bengal tiger pinstripes. It’s simple, but very well done. One a separate note, I think the Bengals have one of the coolest helmets as well.

4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Bucs have had some on-field struggles since winning their Super Bowl in the early 2000s, but their logo is as cool as it’s ever been. Their pirate flag is intimidating, well-crafted, and worthy of a top-five logo in the NFL.

3. Kansas City Chiefs

This is another one in which simplicity worked out. Their logo features an arrowhead with the “KC” inside of it. It is very simple, looks great, and shows the pride of their Native American name.

2. San Diego Chargers

The Chargers logo features just a bolt of electricity. It works. Players run as fast as lightning, their electric, and logo works great with their baby blue and yellow colors.

1. Houston Texans

The Texans have only been a team since 2002, so maybe they had an advantage in coming up with a great logo. The logo features the Texan horns, the colors of the Texan (and American) flag, and has the star (Lone Star State) acting as the eye on the horns. It is simple and very well done.

What’s Goin’ on Next Season?

We capped off a crazy season on February 1st. Now that we’re in the off-season, here are my views of what might be going on next year.

1. Seattle Seahawks are going to be more dominant this upcoming year than they have been the past two. Hard to believe but, the inclusion of Jimmy Graham will accelerate these hawks deep into the playoffs if all goes to plan.

2. AFC East is making a running at the New England Patriots. All three teams came out guns hot ready to pick up some talent in order to finally compete in a division that has been the Pats for so many years. These guys are sick of losing, so expect the division to be a little closer this year.

3. The Eagles will make the playoffs. They barely missed it last year, but Chip Kelly will finally put together the team he’s been looking for. I don’t think the Eagles will have an issue with the Cowboys this year. That being said, I hope Bradford stays healthy.

4. Big question marks. Some of these question marks include: RGIII, Johnny Manziel, Sam Bradford, Jadaveon Clowney, and Adrian Peterson. Between injury and personal issues, these guys have a lot to prove this year.

5. The Saints bounce back. I could never really figure out why the Saints had such an abysmal season last year, but I’m confident it won’t happen again. Brees will lead these boys back to the playoffs.

6. Speaking of the NFC South: The Atlanta Falcons. I really want Matt Ryan to bring his team further this year. They hung around in a bad league all year, but this team has the opportunity to run away with it if they can figure out what went wrong last year.

7. Ravens and 49ers might be weaker. So far, these teams have lost a lot in free agency, retirement, and other issues, and they might have some holes to fill before the season starts. Regardless, both are tough and they’ll end up winning a good amount of games.

*Phew* I’m all for Tom Terrific having fun, but I’m more into him playing chess in a padded room rather than jumping off cliffs. Either way, I’m pretty jealous of the lifestyle.

Recap, Preview And More

Ethan: So…Patriots are Super Bowl Champions. I’m going to be honest when I say that when they lost to the Chiefs in week 4, I didn’t think they were going anywhere. You can never doubt Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, though. How’d the Eagles do?

Jack: 10 wins and 6 loses, but believe it or not, the Eagles missed the playoffs. Couldn’t get the job done when they needed to. Tough losses to Washington and Dallas late in the year killed us. Chip’s offense led by Mark Sanchez let us down in the long run to say the least, and well Bradley Fletcher is the worst corner of all time.

Ethan: Bradley Fletcher…we’ll test Belichick’s coaching if he can turn him into a good cornerback. Hopefully with the inclusion of Sam Bradford (who has been down with injuries the past couple years) the Eagles will be able find that playoff spot…and maybe their first Super Bowl win in franchise history.

Jack: Its within their grasp right now, the addition of DeMarco Murray was huge. Murray being the undisputed rushing champ last year and now coming into this style of offense is huge. Bradford has a lot to prove coming to this team, especially with his injury history. But Bradford is a fresh face in Philly, lot of potential in the name and former #1 overall. But the Pats are having fun with those tampering charges with those lovable Jets.

Ethan: DeMarco will help…no doubt about it. It’ll be fun playing against those Cowboys twice a year now. The AFC East teams hate each other. But three out of four of them have one thing in common: they are determined to beat the Patriots. The Patriots take this division every year, easily. The additions the Dolphins, Jets, and Bills made in the offseason is a clear indicator that they are sick of losing.

Jack: If the Pats should be afraid of anyone, I really think it should be Buffalo. Buffalo goes out gets LeSean McCoy and Charles Clay, two huge moves for that offense. Their defense is no joke either but they lack a QB. Rex Ryan has his work cut out for him but he could give Bill and Brady some fits this year. But I don’t think they can dethrone the champs just yet.

Ethan: Maybe you’ll agree with this but when Rex Ryan left the Jets to go coach the Bills, I couldn’t believe it. A defensive-minded coach goes to a team with a solid defense but has the exact same issues as the Jets in the quarterback area. Jets have tried: Mike Vick, Geno Smith, Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow, and still can’t get it right. The Bills picked up a few QBs in the offseason but couldn’t find success with EJ Manual or Ryan Fitzpatrick. Rex should have gone to a team where he didn’t need to think about his QB. Atlanta would have been a good fit for him.

Jack: I was shocked Rex went to Buffalo especially with the quarterback problems they have had their in the past. I don’t understand how he didn’t see any red flags when Kyle Orton basically packed up and just said he was done. I would have thought he would go to Atlanta or even to Chicago to coach their defense. Tebow is an interesting name to bring up as he as been rumbling around in Philly lately.

Ethan Doyon: I give the guy credit. Tebow is definitely determined. I feel for the guy, and I think he’s already better than a few current quarterbacks. For example: when Jay Cutler throws and interception, you see him shrug his shoulders and go sit on the bench. Tebow would get fired up, check out the pictures and get ready for the next series. Heart matters in the NFL.

Jack: Tebow is just one of those guys who doesn’t want to be known for his college career. I think he could fit anywhere in the league. Signing with the Jets and New England in the end could have been what hurt his career. Doesn’t help that John Elway pretty much kicked him to the curb. He’s a better alternative than Cutler or even EJ Manuel.

Ethan: Agreed. Draft coming up…who should go #1?

Jack: Well Tampa needs all the help they can get. My money is Jameis Winston, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see Mariota. Winston wins, only had 1 career loss at FSU.

Ethan: It’ll be interesting to see who goes first. If I were drafting, I’d be nervous on picking a quarterback. They are very make or break, and most have a hard time transitioning from college to the pros. Andrew Luck is one of the quarterbacks who went first that actually worked out. Most tend to have their issues.

Jack: There are a lot of prospects at that position too, not just Winston and Mariota. The steal of them all could Bryce Petty. Guys got some major problems with concussion, who do you think the Patriots pick?

Ethan: Pats are mostly limited on defense. The would say we should go for some skill players, but I’ve been a fan too long to know that the Pats don’t draft WRs or RBs in the draft. A defensive lineman, safety or cornerback would be a good choice. Their linebacking core is strong with Collins, Hightower, and Mayo.

Jack: I think defense should be their theme, especially after losing their anchor in Wilfork. That big tank in the middle is someone whose almost irreplaceable. I could see them going into the secondary too.

Ethan: When we lost Revis and Browner, I kept telling Patriots fans to stop freaking out. In 2011, we went to the Super Bowl with McCourty, Chung, and Arrington as DBs. We’ll be alright without them, just need to find the right fit for the young guys.

Jack: Arrington is the guy they want to be the next big thing. But it doesn’t look that way, Butler has a lot of promise but if he has to be “the guy” they could be in trouble. Anything is a step up than Chung though.

Ethan: Chung is always dangerous to have on the field…Philly knows that too. Coaches definitely see something in him though. Off-season is a good break though…it gives my heart time to recover from the all the stress it goes through during the season.

Jack: I could even see the Patriots taking a RB with their pick. But the talent in Melvin Gordon won’t be around and I don’t think Bill will want the attitude of Todd Gurley in his locker room.

Ethan: Yeah, I agree. Still interested to see what they do with Stevan Ridley as well. So, our next post…let’s do a list with our top picks in the draft.
